Esther Lea Gryseels, age 91, of Brazoria died on Feb. 4, 2012. She was born in Smiley on Nov. 1, 1920. She married Charles Anthony Gryseels on March 4, 1943. She was her class valedictorian, a graduate of John Sealy College of Nursing and served as a nurse for over 60 years. She was a Sunday School and Bible teacher.

Visitation will be on Monday, Feb. 6 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. at Wild Peach Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Courtney officiating. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. at Bundick Cemetery in Nixon-Smiley.

Active pallbearers will be Timothy, Todd, Chas, Grant, Phillip and Jonathan Gryseels and Brad and Bryan Wimberley.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Anthony Gryseels, Sr. and granddaughter, Amber Gryseels.

She is survived by her sons Tony (Laurie) Gryseels of Lake Jackson; Jim (Martha) Gryseels of Vernon; Steven (Diane D.) Gryseels of Temple and daughters Diane Gryseels of Temple and Evelyn (Gary) Wimberley of Brazoria; 21 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a nephew; a niece and a number of “adopted” children of South Texas Children’s Home where she and Charles were houseparents at one time

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to The South Texas Children’s Home in Beeville.

Final arrangements were under the direction of Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia.
