The Lady Yearlings eighth grade ‘B’ team was invited to participate in Three Rivers’ ‘A’ team tournament after another ‘A’ team bowed out. On Saturday, the Lady Yearlings faced up to the Three Rivers Lady Bulldogs as their first game of the tournament.

As the game started the Lady Bulldogs took the lead while the Lady Yearlings adjusted to the speed and intensity of the game. The second quarter the Lady Yearlings out scored the Lady Bulldogs but it was not enough to take the lead. The second half of the game was very much like the first. Throughout the entire game the Lady Yearlings did a great job of running their offense in spite of the fact that they were playing a quick, talented ‘A’ team.

The final score for the game was 20-32. Scorers for the Lady Yearlings were as follows Eleni Zapata, 12 points; Shawna DeLeon, six; and Allison Bryce, two.

The next team they would play would be an even bigger challenge as they faced up to Falls City Lady Beavers. The Lady Yearlings knew the expectations and they knew that the Lady Beavers were quick and smart. The game started and immediately the Lady Yearlings took the lead with a score of 6-2. They ran a quick offense with good passes and great teamwork! Even still, the Lady Beavers took the lead by the end of the first quarter and maintained it throughout the game, not without a valiant effort from the Lady Yearlings. The final score was 13-37 with contributors Zapata, seven; Bryce, two; DeLeon, two; and Bailey Keith, two.

Great job Lady Yearlings and keep up the good work!
