In the first round, Three Rivers took on Falls City and came away with the win as a shot fell in the last two seconds. Falls City jumped out to a 25-21 lead at halftime, but a strong third quarter in which the Bulldogs out scored Falls City 12-6 helped the Bulldogs take the lead going into the fourth quarter. The final quarter was back and forth until the final eight seconds.
The Bulldogs threw the ball in bounds to Tanner Johanson who passed to John Hesseltine who hit the game winning shot with two seconds left. Hesseltine led the Bulldogs in scoring for the game with 14. Hagan Johnston had 12 points and two three pointers. Avery Newport had seven points and Tanner Johanson added five points.
Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs was Ahmit Patel with two and Dillon Guajardo added a free throw in the win. Other Bulldogs contributing to the victory was Jonathon Aikens who had four assists, Chris Lopez with two steals, Gage Saenz with three rebounds, Travis Smith with one rebound and one assist. Juan Rios, Nick Salazar, Keller Hughes, and Jordan Hines all played great defense as well.
In the championship game, the Bulldogs came up short 23-18. Hesseltine and Johanson led the Bulldogs in scoring with five points apiece. Hagan Johnston had a three pointer, Patel had four points and Dillon Guajardo had one point on a free throw.
The Bulldogs will travel to Jourdanton tomorrow in hopes of getting revenge for the championship loss. The red and white teams are scheduled to play in Jourdanton starting at 5 p.m.
