As the game began, nerves got the best of the Lady Yearlings and the Lady Beavers took the lead with the score 2-7 in the first quarter. By the second quarter, however, the Lady Yearlings had regained their composure and out scored the Lady Beavers by ten points, with a halftime score of 14-9. Sharp passes and teamwork contributed to their success. The third quarter was a repeat with the Lady Yearlings scoring 10 while the Lady Beavers scored none. The Lady Yearlings battled hard to the end. Throughout the game they maintained the lead over a team who had previously defeated them. The final score was 26-13. The triumph in winning this game was great for the Lady Yearlings and they would take that into the championship game against Three Rivers.
As the championship game started the Lady Yearlings and the Lady Bulldogs stayed neck and neck with a George West’s score of six and Three Rivers’ score of five. By the second quarter however, the Lady Yearlings pulled ahead, nearly doubling the Lady Bulldogs score with a halftime score of 14-7. The third quarter continued in like manner with the Lady Yearlings quadrupling the score of the Lady Bulldogs. As the fourth quarter came to a close the Lady Bulldogs managed to out score the Lady Yearlings but it was not enough to close the gap that the Lady Yearlings made early on. The final score was 20-13, designating the Lady Yearlings the champions of the tournament.
