TR seventh grade girls win in over-time

On Thursday, Jan. 15, the Three Rivers seventh grade Lady Bulldog basketball team defeated Freer in an exciting game that went into overtime with a score of 18-17. The Lady Bulldogs played hard defensively throughout the whole game, and fought hard for their win.

Scoring for the Lady Bulldogs in the first quarter was Haleigh Garcia with four points, and Sara Saenz played well offensively. Kellie Moya and Kailey Harless rebounded the ball and showed their awesome defensive skills. Tessa Gregory also hustled for the ball and had four rebounds in the first quarter.

Coming into the second quarter the Lady Bulldogs were behind to Freer with a score of 4-6. But the Lady Bulldogs came out strong and showed great defensive skills and held the Freer to only a two points in the second quarter. Mia Castillo and Keely Retzloff hustled for the ball and made three rebounds each.

The Lady Bulldogs came out in the third quarter ready to hustle for the ball and played another defensive quarter. Garcia and Harless both had two points each in the third quarter. Amber Mendoza had two rebounds and one assist, and Brittany Wilson had one rebound. Heather Thomas also had two rebounds in the third quarter. Mikaila Rushing played well defensively and stole the ball away from Freer at the end of the third quarter shifting the momentum for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Bulldogs gave the crowd an exciting fourth quarter by holding Freer to only two points and scoring five points.

Saenz scored two points in the fourth quarter. Garcia went to the free throw line five times and scoring four points and one free throw which was the tying point that sent the game into overtime.

Garcia ended up going to the free throw line six more times, and made the winning free throw for the Lady Bulldogs.
