GW Longhorns finish regular season 18-3

The George West Varsity Baseball team finished the regular season with two important victories to finish the season with an 18-3 overall record and 12-2 in district.

On Tuesday night, the Longhorns traveled to Dilley and defeated the Wolves by a score of 10-0. Tyler Townsend and Alex Suniga combined on a one hitter. Tyler pitched 4-0 scoreless innings. He struck out six and did not give up a hit. Alex pitched one scoreless inning and struck out two.

Leading the way offensively, Jeffrey Hardwick was 3-4 with three RBI’s. Trae Smith was 2-2 with a triple. Lucas Barcak 2-3 with a double. He also scored two runs. Andrew Katzfey was 2-3 with a double. Derek Cantu, Seth Pipkin, Caleb Montgomery each had RBI singles for the Longhorns. Pipkin had an RBI double.

On Friday night the Longhorns hosted the district leading Poth Pirates. The Longhorns had revenge on their mind. The Longhorns whipped the Pirates by a score of 8-2. Townsend pitched a complete game. Tyler struck out eleven Pirates and gave up only five hits. With the win, Tyler improved his pitching record to 10-1. Tyler pitched a great game. Colton Guerrero, Cantu, Hardwick and Katzfey all had multi-hit games. Guerrero and Brady Jones each had a double. Chris Ruiz also had a single.

The Longhorns pounded out eleven hits. It was a great way to finish the district schedule. The entire team played well. Congratulations on a great season and best of luck in the playoffs.
