Three Rivers ISD will hold a bond election this Saturday, May 12 asking voters to approve $14,220,000 for the construction of a new elementary school. If approved, a new elementary school will be constructed where the current middle school is located. The building will contain offices, classrooms, a library and a gymnasium. The gymnasium will sit next to the current Student Activity Center gym and will serve as an elementary PE gym, as well as an additional practice and game gym for the junior high and high school. Also included in the bond are funds for needed demolition.

‘The proposed new elementary will allow us to have all of our classrooms under one roof and will bring us into compliance with state minimum classroom size requirements,’ said Superintendent Kenneth Rohrbach. ‘The existing elementary has served its purpose, but is costing the district a great deal of money to maintain. It is also very energy inefficient.’

The current debt service tax rate for TRISD is $0.16021 per $100 of appraised value. This is based on the current district property value of $686,000,000. It is projected that the appraised value of the district for the 2012-2013 school year will be approximately $1,120,000,000. If approved by voters, the estimated debt service tax rate for 2012-2013 will be $0.0954 per $100 of appraised value. That is a decrease of $0.0648. The rate would increase the next year, but will likely not exceed the current rate, due to the fact that the value of property in the district continues to rise because of the oil and gas wells that are being drilled.

Polls will be open on May 12 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the following locations: Nell (Precint 7) will vote at the home of Martina Wallek, Ray Point (Precinct 6) will vote at the Ray Point Community Center, Simmons City (Precinct 11) will vote at the Simmons City Community Center, Whitsett (Precinct 8) will vote at the Whitsett Baptist Church and Three Rivers (Precincts 9 and 10) will vote at the TRISD administration building.
