TR eighth grade boys take consolation in tourney

The eighth grade Bulldog boys came away with the consolation trophy in the Three Rivers Junior High Tournament held this past weekend.

Down at halftime against Jourdanton, the Bulldogs pulled away in the third quarter, out scoring the Indians 9-2. Three Rivers came out with a 27-25 victory.

Cory Moya played an excellent game, leading the Bulldogs with 19 points. Sammie Simmons had four points and Kalli Escamilla and Josh Cooper both added two points apiece. Charlie Johnston played great defensively with four steals and seven rebounds. T.J. Rodriguez also contributed in the victory with a rebound.

On Thursday night, the Bulldogs played a hard fought game against George West and came up short 33-30. Chance Saenz led the Bulldogs in scoring with 17 points. Cory Moya had nine points with a three pointer. Sammie Simmons and Kallie Escamilla added two points apiece. Charlie Johnston had five rebounds and Josh Cooper had three steals in the effort.
