A new soccer program affiliated with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Live Oak County is making preparations to kick off. Participants are signing up, a schedule is in the works and the field is being prepped.

Players may sign up at the Dairy Queen in George West on July 19 between 4 and 6 p.m. or at the Dairy Queen in Three Rivers between 5 and 7 p.m. The cost is $30 for Boys & Girls Club members and $50 for non-members. Applications/memberships may also be picked up at First National Bank in Three Rivers and at the Boys & Girls Clubs in Three Rivers and George West.

The tentative date for the opening games for the first season is August 11. Games will be played on Saturdays at Three Rivers on the field between the pool and the Little League field. Teams will be assigned by age groups, and practices will be set up as soon as the teams are formed.

Board member Cheree Caka said, “We are really excited about soccer being added to the youth sports and looking forward to a successful first season.”

Though a number of volunteers and sponsors are already on board, more are always welcome. As the program is building from the ground up, sponsors are needed to help acquire goals, flags, cones and balls as are volunteers willing to contribute time and muscle.

Anyone wishing to work in this program is urged to contact Cheree Caka at 361-319-4138 or Elizabeth Ham at 381-449-0105 or the Boys & Girls Clubs. Board members for the program are Cheree Caka, Kimberly Lamprecht, Elizabeth Ham, Tallesin McCall and Erica Moya.
