Lady Horns open softball season with impressive win

The Lady Horns opened the 2009 softball season with an impressive 9-0 win over Goliad. Maggie Ham pitched a complete game. She allowed no hits and struck out an impressive 21 Goliad batters. Offensively, the Lady Horns were led by Tiffany Garza, Megan Hardwick, Lacey Gee, Kayla Krietsch and Maggie Ham who each had two hits. Victoria Lopez, Shawna Talley, Devina Martinez and Jessica Lichtenberger each had a hit for the Lady Horns. It was a great way to open the season. It was also a very dominating pitching performance by Maggie Ham. The whole team played well. Great job Lady Horns.

The Lady Horns traveled to the Pearsall tournament this past weekend. The Lady Horns ended up playing seven complete games.

The Lady Horns defeated SA Christian 6-0, Comfort 2-0, SA Hawkins 21-0, and defeated Del Rio 9-0. They were all pooled games and the Lady Horns finished first in their pool. Maggie Ham picked up all four wins. The leading batters: Megan Hardwick, Lacey Gee, Kayla Krietsch, Maggie Ham, Shawna Talley, Tiffany Garza, Devina Martinez and Devyn Pierce – all had multi-hit games. Megan Hardwick scored 10 runs and stole six bases in there four games. In bracket play on Saturday the Lady Horns played the host team, the Lady Mavs. In the top of the seventh Lacey Gee hit a towering home run to give the Lady Horns the lead and win.

In the second bracket game George West defeated Somerset 6-0. In the championship game the Lady Horns took on the Pirates from Poth. It was a rematch of the playoffs from last season. The game was playoff intense. Both pitchers had their “A” game. Maggie Ham struck out four Pirates batters. Both teams played great softball. In the end the Lady Horns lost 1-0 to Poth. Great job Lady Horns!
