The Bulldogs traveled to Odem Monday night without one of their leaders.

Rico Rodriguez did not make the trip with his team. His mom, Mary Lou, passed away early Monday morning in San Antonio and he was helping with arrangements Monday night. “Rico is a great kid and really loves being a Bulldog. I talked to the other seniors and they decided that she would have wanted us to play,” said Coach Chris Tobola.

Rodriguez had started every game in centerfield for the last two years. Monday was going to be the 1st game of his senior year. Tobola put Rodriguez’s name in the starting lineup where it always is, centerfield. The Bulldogs started the game off with 0 runs in the top of the first inning. When starting pitcher John Morgan Ross threw the first pitch of the game in the bottom half of the inning, the Bulldog played without a centerfielder.

After the pitch, Tobola called time. Went out and talked to the umpire and inserted Taylor Noble in Rodriguez’s spot. The game finished with the Owls on top 13-0. The score really didn’t matter. Life makes things look real insignificant at times.
