Lady Bulldogs come from behind to beat Skidmore

The Three Rivers Lady Bulldogs took on Skidmore Tynan last week in the season opener here in Three Rivers.

Allison Dugger started off the game with a hard hit ball down the third base line, but the Bobcat third baseman made a great play and threw Dugger out for the first out of the game. Three Rivers was held scoreless in the first inning. Skidmore got out to a 2-0 lead as the first two batters reached base by walks. Pitcher Kelly Barker then finished strong in the inning getting a strikeout and two ground ball outs to end the inning. Three rivers got on the board with Brittany Pullin’s single to score Tamara Gonzales. Lauren Storey, Morgan Franke, and Dugger got on with three consecutive walks. Dugger go the RBI on her walk as Storey scored. Kourtney Standlee then hit a hard grounder to second to score Franke. The score was tied 3-3 after 2 innings.

In the third inning, Lindsey Amman and Gonzales scored on a fielders choice by Megan Cruz and then on a walk by Pullin. The Bobcats pulled away in the 3rd and 4th innings scoring 9 runs to go up. Freshman Megan Cruz finished the game pitching with a strong outing, holding the Bobcats to three scoreless innings in the last three innings. Franke and Pullin scored in the fourth and fifth innings to make the score 12-7 going into the last inning. Franke led off the 7th reaching first then advancing to second on a Dugger hit to right field. Standlee moved the runners over on a sacrifice. Barker then walked . Lindsey Amman then got a 2 RBI single up the middle to score Dugger and Franke.

Gonzales and Cruz then reached base followed by a walk by Pullin as the Bulldogs pulled to 12-11. Christen Lerma then hit a shot to deep center field to score Pullin and Cruz for the game winning hit to give the Bulldogs a season opening win.

The Junior Varsity also played Skidmore’s varsity squad as they didn’t have a JV. The Lady Bulldogs got great pitching from Chelsie Gloor and also won in the last inning 9-8. Lindsey Zamzow had a 2 RBI hit and Ashley Gutierrez also drove in 3 runs in the victory. Additional scorers were Kourtney Salazar. Samantha Tadlock did a great job behind the plate. Sarah Retzloff had 2 hits in the win. Playing tough defensively was Laura Morin, Lisa Puerto, and Michelle Luna. Harli Benham played great in the outfield and infield and scored a run in the victory. The JV is 1-0 .
