THREE RIVERS – A Three Rivers man died in a two-car collision on Interstate 37 just south of Mathis near mile marker 33 on Friday, Aug. 31.

A 20-year-old woman from Three Rivers, Hanna Marie Roberts, was in critical condition at Christus Spohn Memorial in Corpus Christi, following the collision.

After being transported to the hospital from the scene of the accident, Harrison Curbello, 22, of Three Rivers, was pronounced dead by Hugo Stimmler, Nueces County medical examiner.

Two others also died in the collision: Joanna Garcia, 19, of Weslaco, and Celeste Gauna, 18, of Corpus Christi, according to the Department of Public Safety communications division.

Roberts was the driver of the 2008 Honda Fit traveling northbound when the car veered over into the middle median, where it fell on its left side, skidded across the median and was struck buy a southbound 2001 Volkswagen on I-37.

The Honda then rolled off the highway on the side of the highway facing east and upright.

The Volkswagen was pushed off the highway from the impact, and it came to rest facing west on the side of I-37.

In addition to Roberts, Anthony William Romero, 20, and Daniel Romero, 18, of Alamo – passengers in the Volkwagen – were taken to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital, all in critical condition.

According to the DPS, all involved in the accident were wearing seatbelts.
