Corpus Christi — Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Corpus Christi District Engineer Lonnie Gregorcyk today announced the selection of Chris Caron as the new Deputy District Engineer for the Corpus Christi District. Caron will begin his duties Oct. 1.

“I am very pleased to have Chris back in TxDOT’s Corpus Christi District. His knowledge of the area and his extensive experience with transportation issues will benefit the traveling public and will make him a valuable asset as this district continues to move forward,” Gregorcyk said.

A native of George West, Caron began his TxDOT career in 1984 as a summer employee in the Alice Area Office of the Corpus Christi District. Upon graduation in 1990, he began work in the Karnes City Area Office. He was named Assistant Area Engineer for the George West Area Office in 1995, becoming Area Engineer for the Alice Area Office in 1997.

In March 2011, Caron accepted the position of Beaumont Area Engineer, his most recent position.

Caron will assist in management and engineering oversight of planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the state’s transportation system in the 10-county Corpus Christi District. He will report to Gregorcyk, the District Engineer.

“It’s great to be home, working to improve the Coastal Bend’s transportation system,” Caron said.

Caron received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University in 1989 and earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Southwestern University in 1987. He enjoys travel, the outdoors and camping.
