GEORGE WEST — This past Friday night, the Longhorns hosted the Brooks Academy Bengals at Longhorn Field.

This was the first meeting ever between the two schools. Brooks Academy is in the fourth year of its program, and has only picked up one win in that time frame.

The Horns finished with a second win in district play with a 47-0 rout of the young Bengal squad. The Horns improve to 4-2 overall, and 2-0 in District 15 play.

The scoring was fast and furious for George West in the opening quarter. After a fumble recovery by linebacker Jacob Almaguer on the Bengals second play of the night, the Horns offense exploded.

George West senior running back Bobby Torres, who had been sidelined all season with an injury, made his return to the field. He started the scoring for the Horns with a 27-yard touchdown run up the gut of the Bengals defense. Jessie Haros added the PAT for a 7-0 lead and 10:32 minutes remaining in the first quarter.

On the Horns next possession, it took two plays for the Horns to punch in another touchdown. Hudson Wallace raced in from 58 yards out to put George West up 14-0 after a second PAT by Haros.

Midway through the quarter, Andrew Katzfey hit a wide open Wallace for a 45-yard touchdown strike through the air. Katzfey than ran the 2-point conversion to put the Horns up 22-0 with 6 minutes left to play in the opening quarter

On the ensuing possession for Brooks Academy, a fumble by the quarterback was scooped up by Wallace, and he trotted into the end zone from 10 yards out for the touchdown. Another successful PAT by Haros made it 29-0, George West, with 4 minutes left in the first quarter.

The final score of the opening quarter came when Joseph Blevens raced around the right end for an 18-yard touchdown run, bringing the score to 35-0, in favor of the Horns to end the first quarter.

The beginning of the second quarter saw many of the younger Horns getting some important play time on the varsity level. Midway through the quarter, the Horns got on the board again as Blevens raced in from 33 yards out for his second touchdown run of the night, putting the Horns up 41-0 at halftime.

The final score of the night for the Horns came in the opening kickoff to start the third quarter. Senior Lukas Barcak returned the kickoff 84 yards for the Horns. A failed 2-point conversion left the score at 47-0, George West.

This week, the Longhorns will have a bye week, as they prepare for the final stretch of District 15 games. Next week, the Horns will host San Antonio Cole at Longhorn Field for the George West 2012 Homecoming.
