Accuracy and precision are essential when recording data. Students in George West spent their lab time trying to understand kinematics (the study of how things move).

Do all objects fall at the same rate under the influence of gravity? Does air friction affect objects moving at low speeds through the atmosphere? In a partnership with the Beeville ISD, George West students participated in a lab to determine variables such as these. Beeville ISD instructor, Ben Barris, has been teaching GW Pre-Advanced Placement Physics students via video conference each day. However, last Friday, Mr. Barris came to George West to conduct lab experiments to determine vector and velocity of moving objects, as well as how acceleration is affected by gravity.

Meanwhile, down the hall of George West High School, Glenda Locke’s Anatomy and Physiology students were conducting an Enzyme Lab. Enzymes are proteins that speed up the rate of reactions that would otherwise happen more slowly. In the lab, students were to measure the effects of changes in temperature, pH and enzyme concentration on reaction rates of an enzyme catalyzed reaction. It is important for students to be able to explain how environmental factors affect the rate of enzyme-catalyzed reactions.
