George West Junior High teams defeat Mathis

Both 7th and 8th grade football teams remain undefeated after beating the Mathis Pirates last Tuesday at home.

The 7th grade Yearlings came away with a 38-34 victory. Lawson Henicke led the way with three total touchdowns. Late in the first half he found Mason Lyne through the air for the team’s first passing touchdown of the year. Devin Naylor and Conner Lyne also had one touchdown each.

The starting offensive line comprised of Ian Moon, Joseph Martinez, Tray Lamarca, Mario Suniga, Riley Mumme, and Mason Lyne came up with big blocks during crucial situations the entire game.

On defense, Clayton Stapleton led the team in tackles. Defensive ends Jay Reagan and Taylor Carrasco made huge plays in the fourth quarter that sealed the victory.

The 8th grade Yearlings beat Mathis by a score of 42-14. Hunter Brown led a dominant ground attack with three total touchdowns. David Zuniga had both a rushing and receiving touchdown. Rudy Salazar and Colton McCool each added a touchdown on the ground.

Fisher Barcak and Kyle Gee had outstanding games on the offensive line.

Defensively, Beau Mixon and Kaleb Daws made big plays all night. Cole Clifton made several tackles and had one forced fumble which he recovered.

The Yearlings will play San Antonio Cole this Thursday at home. The games start at 5 p.m.
