George West finished their Live Oak tournament Saturday, March 7 with a 4-2 win over Banquete.

Shannon Taylor picked up his first win of the season by throwing a seven strike out, complete game. With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 6th inning, a Brett Epperson double was followed by a Taylor opposite field, two run home run.

On Monday, March 9 the Longhorns lost to Corpus Christi private school John Paul II, 11-1. The Centurions rolled up ten hits and George West was left hitless on the night.

Thursday, March 12 the Horns lost to D’Hanis 4-3 in the first game of the Falfurrias tournament in Falfurrias. Brett Epperson collected two hits in the game, but terrific defense couldn’t overcome too many stranded Horn runners.

The Horns returned and played one of their best games of the season, beating San Diego 6-4. Senior Lucas Rannefeld (2-0) threw a complete game gem in the rain and mud, and helped his cause with a two run double. A two run double by Brett Epperson gave George West another clutch hit, and the win pushed the Horns’ record to 4-8. Rains cancelled the rest of the tournament.

Tuesday continues district play for the Big Blue with a home game against preseason district favorite Natalia (2-0 in district), then a Friday road trip to Jourdanton.
