WHITSETT – Five people were injured, two seriously, in a one-vehicle rollover just south of the rest stop in northern Live Oak County on Interstate 37 at about 7:15 a.m. Thursday.

The driver, Marciela Garcia, 47, of Bakersfield, Calif., was in the northbound lanes when her Chevrolet Tahoe hit the median and apparently over-corrected.

The Tahoe, with California license plates, rolled over several times and ended up in the southbound lanes, according to Charlie Ramirez, Department of Public Safety public information officer.

All passengers were transported to hospitals.

Marciela Garcia was transported by AirLife helicopter to San Antonio’s University Hospital.

Front passenger Sonia Felix Garcia, 22, was transported by a HALO helicopter with critical injuries to Corpus Christi Spohn Memorial Hospital.

Alisol Felix, 3, was taken by a HALO helicopter to Driscoll Childrens Hospital in Corpus Christi with minor injuries.

Also with minor injuries, Arlet Felix, 8 months old, was taken to Driscoll Childrens Hospital.

Laamele Felix, 4, also was taken to Driscoll Children’s Hospital with serious injuries. Ramirez said she had been ejected from the vehicle.

Ramirez said the group of people were coming from Edinburg and were apparently on their way home.

In addition to the DPS, the Live Oak County Sheriff’s Office, Whitsett Volunteer Fire Department, Three Rivers Volunteer Fire Department, Acadian EMS and Charlie’s Wrecker Service were at the scene.
