Lady Bulldogs defeat Cotulla Cowgirls

The Three Rivers Lady Bulldogs traveled to Cotulla last week to take a 13-11 victory.

Three Rivers got on the board first in the first inning as Allison Dugger singled then advanced to second base on a Brittany Pullin single then scored on a Lindsey Amman single to center field. Christen Lerma then singled over Pullin and Amman. The Lady Bulldogs appeared to be headed for a big inning but a Tamara Gonzales line drive hit a Lady Bulldog runner to end the inning.

Three Rivers scored 5 runs in the 3rd inning off hits by Lauren Storey, Ashley Gutierrez, Pullin, Dugger, Amman, and Gonzales. Kelly Barker also scored in the inning to put the Bulldogs up 6-0 going into the bottom of the 3rd. Fine pitching by Megan Cruz held the Cowboys scoreless for the first two innings but the Cowgirls got on the board with 2 runs in the bottom of the third. Three Rivers scored one run in the fourth after a two out rally. Tamara Gonzales doubled to knock in Amman. Lerma and Gutierrez also singled in the inning.

The game appeared to be in control until the Cowgirl bats woke up in the bottom of the 5th. The Lady Bulldogs gave up 7 runs in the inning, the last 5 being unearned after two defensive errors. The Lady Bulldogs got things going again in the 6th inning with a lead-off triple by Ashley Gutierrez. Morgan Franke then got on by a bunt and Gutierrez then scored. Franke was moved over by a fielders choice by Dugger . Franke scored on a Barker walk followed by Lauren Storey who was hit by a pitch to get to first base. Barker and Storey would score after singles by Amman and Lerma. The Cowgirls scored in the final inning but the game ended with the bases loaded and a great defensive play by Lindsey Amman to end the game. Offensively the Lady Bulldogs were led by Amman who went 4-for-4 , Dugger was 3-for-5, Kelly Barker scored 3 runs and was 2-for-5, Lerma who went 3-for 4, Pullin went 4-for-4 and Gonzales and Gutierrez had 3 hit games, each with an extra bases hit.

The Junior Varsity squad also won 12-8 behind pitching by Chelsie Gloor and Sarah Retzloff. Kourtney Salazar had 2 hits and scored 3 times and Lindsey Zamzow scored and Lisa Puerto had hits in the win. Michele Luna had a hit and scored also. Defensively the Lady Bulldogs got a great game out of Harli Benham and Samantha Tadlock. The Junior varsity improved to 5-2 for the year.
