Relay For Life of Live Oak-McMullen counties is gearing up for a new year.

The kickoff event will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the George West Chamber of Commerce.

The event promotes Relay For Life and begins fundraising efforts for 2013.

The George West High School band will play, and other student organizations are expected at the event.

Food and drinks will be served.

The event is free to the public.

This year’s Relay will be held at the George West High School stadium 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. on April 26.

People are encouraged to sign up a team on the Relay website:

Cancer survivors are invited to register, as well, because they will be recognized at the Relay and treated to a dinner.

Funds raised go toward cancer research as well as supporting local programs in the Coastal Bend such as free wigs, breast prosthesis bras, gas cards and more.

For more information, phone event chair Charlie Burchfield at 361-254-2545 or phone Stephanie Kusy of the American Cancer Society at 361-857-0136.
