Getting the opportunity to take the skills learned in various high school classes and apply them to business situations is what the Business Professionals of America Workplace Skill Assessment Program is all about.

Nine George West High School students got to do just that as they competed with students from Alice, Beeville, Calallen, Flour Bluff, Gregory-Portland, Mathis, Rockport and Tuloso-Midway at the BPA Regional Conference held at Gregory-Portland High School, Saturday, January 19.

Six of them placed high enough to advance to the State level of competition. The results are as follows:

Tara Liska – 1st, Payroll Accounting

Zeliene Brown – 1st, Medical Office Procedures

Katelyn Keach – 1st, Extemporaneous Speech

Shelby James – 1st, Prepared Speech

Sarah Crawford – 1st, Presentation Management-Individual

Darin Cuevas – 2nd, Keyboarding Production

The Video Production Team, made up of Emily Feist, Gabbie Chapa, and Maitlin Couk – 5th

In the Open Events, which are additional events that are open to all conference attendees, Zeliene Brown placed 1st in Financial Math & Analysis, and Katelyn Keach placed 4th in Parliamentary Procedures.

Advancing to the BPA State Conference in Houston Feb. 28-March 2 are those students who placed in the top 2 in their events.

The group was accompanied by Flo Moore, Chapter Advisor, and Kristy Keach.
