Elsie Ramona "Raye" Smith passed away on April 10, 2009 in Corpus Christi after a short illness at the age of 78. She was born to William Cordie Bishop and Jennie Lenore Sinor Bishop on December 13, 1930. Raye was raised in the Live Oak and Bee County areas. Raye met Francis Henry "Buster" Smith and was married on November 17, 1948. She was a devoted housewife and mother to her family.

Raye was an active member of the Brush Country Cowboy Church of Live Oak County. Raye and her husband, Buster, were founding members of the church. She was an active member of the hospitality team and a strong supporter of the church's outreach ministries around the world.

Together, Raye and Buster had six children: Debby (Mitchell) Pawlik of La Para, Mark Smith of George West, Terry (Debbie Jo Powell) Smith of George West, Judy (Ted) Troell of George West, Willie Smith of George West and Amy Smith of Calallen. Raye had fourteen grandchildren: Jarret Pawlik, Melissa Mumme, Josh Smith, Teresa Knuppel, Jeremiah Smith, Amanda Smith, Rachel Karcher, Teddy Troell, Kim Troell, Katie Troell, Kayla Smith, Trae Smith, Preston Smith and Daniel Senter; and nine great-grandchildren: Riley Mumme, Sidney Brooks Mumme, Cyley and Chloe Smith, Byron Carvajal, Taylor Knuppel, Colton and Connor Troell and Kade Karcher, and many nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.

Raye is preceded in death by her husband, Buster, one grandchild, Katie Troell, her parents, Jennie and Cordie Bishop, and one brother, Johnny Bishop.

Visitation began Sat., April 11, 2009 from 6-9 p.m. and Sunday, April 12 from 6-9 p.m. at the Smith Residence in George West. Funeral services were Monday, April 13, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Brush Country Cowboy Church (1 mile N. of FM 799, Hwy. 37 S. Access Rd.) with Rev. Pat Traxler and Dr. Jan Viljoen, D.M. officiating. Interment followed at George West Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Mark Smith, Terry Smith, Willie Smith, Mitchell Pawlik, Ted Troell, Josh Smith, Jarret Pawlik, Teddy Troell, Jeremiah Smith, Daniel Senter, Trae Smith and Preston Smith.
