Texas Family Career and Community Leaders of America held its state meeting in Corpus Christi on April 16-18. There were around 5,000 students attending this student led organization that promotes growth and leadership development through family and consumer sciences education.

Three Rivers Senior and Junior chapters attended and participated in STAR events (Students Taking Action with Recognition). Thursday, Shelly Smith and Rachel Dockery participated in Illustrated Talk and Stephanie Saenz and Sidney Wood presented in the National Programs event. On Friday, Junior chapter members Darcy Orsak, Khiry Franke and Taylor LaRose competed in Chapter Service Project Display and placed 3rd. They would like to again thank the student body and community members who donated old unused cell phones for their presentation.

After the STAR events were completed on Thursday night, attendees were captivated by Patrick Grady, a hypnotist who showed that leadership can by “hypno—larious”. On Friday morning, there was a distribution through Feed the Children Food Drive that provided meals to about 400 Bay Area residents from money collected by FCCLA members. Friday evening, members met Faith Stringfellow, an amazing dog bom with a birth defect and has overcome obstacles and is inspiring others with her courage and eagerness for life. Saturday’s speaker was Keith Davis, former pro football player who motivated members to work hard and do their best to succeed at anything they wish to accomplish.

Our chapters would like to thank the community for their support throughout the year through your purchases at concession stands, pre-game meals, contributions of items for Live Oak Outreach, South Texas Children’s Home and for your verbal support and good wishes. FCCLA is truly the future of leadership in our homes, careers and community.
