The Beeville Concert Association’s opening concert for the 2008-2009 season features some of Beeville’s most talented musicians, both young and experienced, with selections which will appeal to a wide variety of musical tastes. The concert is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. at the Coastal Bend College Gertrude R. Jones Performing Arts Auditorium.

A.C. Jones High School marimba players Victor Hinojosa and Ismael Garza will perform solos that earned them awards in state and regional competitions, while A.C. Jones classical guitar teacher Jaime Vela and his students Andrew DeLeon, Marcos Montez, James Sandoval and Yvonne Alaniz will also play. Yvonne will also sing “Ave Maria,” accompanied by Dr. Jim Lee of CBC.

Moreno Junior High history teacher David Vickers will play a bagpipe solo.

Nancy Jones, Noemi Aldape, Carolyn Heizer and Sally Friedlander, all members of the Beeville Community Chorus, will sing solos and duos for the program, and former CBC English instructor Dr. Al Past will join CBC music instructor Linda Switzer for a trumpet duet.

Diane Hause will play a flute solo, and CBC mariachi instructor Rosie Maldonado will perform with fellow mariachis.

Season memberships are $40 for adults, with all children through high school age admitted free. CBC students are admitted with their student ID’s through CBC sponsorship. Single tickets at the door are $7 for adults.

“Season memberships for the BCA are probably one of the best musical bargains anywhere,” BCA President Kay Past said. “We can continue to offer them at affordable prices because of the Joe Barnhart Foundation and our local sponsors and friends of the arts. Tickets for any one of these programs would cost $15 or much more at performances in large cities.”

Season tickets may be purchased at the Sept. 28 concert, from a BCA volunteer or by mailing a check to the BCA, P.O Box 1511, Beeville, 78104. Members who purchase their tickets before the first concert may pick them up at the door on Sept. 28.

Individuals or businesses who would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to the BCA may have their names listed on each concert program in the following categories:

• Friend of the Arts, $50 (receives one complimentary season ticket);

• Patron of the Arts, $100 (receives two complimentary season tickets);

• Benefactor of the Arts, $150 (receives three complimentary season tickets);

• Corporate Sponsor of the Arts, $250 or more (receives five complimentary season tickets).

“Local contributions will enable the BCA to pay for this year’s concerts and to plan another exciting concert season for 2009-2010,” Mrs. Past explained.
