The Junior Varsity Bulldog football squad took the field again for the first time since the opening week. The Bulldogs looked eager to get going and didn’t waste anytime putting points on the scoreboard as Gage Crawford returned the opening kickoff for 73 yards. His return was opened up by blocks from Patrick Jarratt, Brodie Ruiz, Josh Perez, and Troy Chowns. The PAT was good as quarterback Larry Hatten ran into the end zone untouched to put Three Rivers up 8-0.

The hard running attack of Skidmore ran the ball to the 14 yard line and then completed a pass to the tight end to the one yard line. The Bobcats scored and converted on the PAT to tie the ball game 8-8 with 3:20 left in the first quarter. The Bulldogs got the ball again and marched down the field with runs by Hatten and fullback Troy Chowns. Three Rivers then got down to the Bobcat one yard line. The ball appeared to be down when a Bobcat defender ran out of the pile of players and returned it to the Bulldog 23 yard line. Skidmore went on to score to go ahead 8-14.

In the second quarter the Bulldogs took the ball down the field on runs by Hatten, Chowns, and Ryan Saenz added an 18 yard run. Hatten then converted a perfect pass to Crawford to give him his second touchdown of the night. The PAT was no good as Ty Brown was tackled short of the goal line. The Bulldogs recovered a fumble on the next defensive possession. Several Bulldog defenders got in on tackles. Sophiab Pon, Taylor Noble, Nathan Morin, Brodie Ruiz, and Jake Baker helped get the ball back to the offense. Ryan Saenz then took the ball outside on first down for a 16 yard gain. Three plays later, Troy Chowns took the handoff and ran 38 yards for the Bulldogs next score. On the PAT , Hatten passed to Chowns to put the Bulldogs up 22-14 at the half.

In the second half the Bulldogs came out strong and made the Bobcats earn every yard. Linebackers Saenz, Morin, Hatten, and Chowns made great plays but Skidmore found the end zone to tie the game 22-22. Again the Bulldogs got the ball to start the fourth quarter. Hatten carried the ball on first down and Ty Brown got the call on second down for an eight yard gain. Again Chowns took the handoff behind blocks by the offensive lineman of Taylor Noble, Jacob Muniz, Xavier Briseno, Robby Stoddard, and Jake Baker.

Receivers Michael Casarez, Josh Perez, Patrick Jarratt, and Garrett Weiding made outstanding blocks down field to spring open the long runs all night. Chowns found the endzone on the 47 yard run. The PAT was good as Ryan Saenz carried the ball into endzone to make the score 30-22. Skidmore got the ball back with 7:54 left in the game. The Bobcats took the ball down to score to make it 30-28. On the PAT, Crawford hit the Skidmore running back and forced a fumble into the endzone that was recovered by Josh Perez to preserve the Bulldog lead. On the kickoff, Skidmore kicked an onside kick that bounced by the Bulldog front line and Skidmore recovered. Skidmore then scored with 1:32 left in the game to go up 30 – 36. The Bulldogs got one last chance, but on second down the Bobcats intercepted the pass and ran out the clock.

The JV Bulldogs will take on Natalia on the road Thursday night following the Junior High games which begin at 5 p.m.
