GOLIAD – The Texas Rangers have concluded their investigation of the City of Goliad and have determined there were no criminal actions committed by city officials concerning loans made by the Goliad Municipal Development District.

Goliad City Secretary Pam Long said she was notified Wednesday by Texas Rangers investigator Bradley Freeman that he had "found nothing criminal" and the Rangers "are no longer pursuing" the case.

When contacted Thursday by the Advance-Guard, Freeman cited Ranger policy of not divulging information on investigations. "There really isn't anything to tell you," Freeman said.

The Rangers' investigation was requested by District Attorney Michael Sheppard in September.

Long said the city was notified by Sheppard on Thursday morning that his office was going to conduct a "forensic investigation of all financial records."

Sheppard was unavailable for comment Thursday.
