Spencer Clay Butler, 32, was taken from his Victoria home Tuesday and charged with capital murder of a person under 6 years old, which is a first-degree felony.
The child, Paul McAdams, was transported to Victoria's DeTar Hospital Navarro by his parents at approximately 4 a.m. Friday with severe head injuries.
According to a GCSO news release, hospital staff determined the child sustained blunt force trauma to his head and notified law authorities. The child was transported by medical helicopter to University Hospital in San Antonio where he died Saturday night.
According to Sheriff Kirby Brumby, an autopsy confirmed the child died of blunt force injuries to the head, which resulted in multiple skull fractures.
“Further details are not being released at this time so as not to compromise the ongoing investigation,” Brumby said.
Butler was living in Goliad County with the child's parents, Marilyn Weygand and Zachary McAdams, at the time of the injury, according to Brumby.
Butler was being held at the Goliad County Jail as of Tuesday night.
