Mr. Briseno was born in George West on Aug. 1, 1935, to Fulgencio and Angelita Amaya Briseno. He married Ofelia Salinas on June 14, 1958, in George West. He worked as a cook at Ferguson Restaurant, also known as Carter’s Restaurant, and also at the Live Oak County Courthouse as a part-time custodian and jailer for the Sheriff’s Department. He was retired from the George West ISD as a custodian, groundskeeper and bus driver. He enjoyed sports and umpired Little League baseball for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Roel Gutierrez.
Survivors include his wife, Ofelia S. Briseno of George West; two sons, Carlos Briseno of Buna and Danny (Pam) Briseno of Orange; three daughters, Dolores (Carlos) Perez and Ida (Jesse) Vasquez, both of George West, and Angie Gutierrez of Buna; two brothers, Angel A. Briseno of George West and Alfredo Briseno of Breckenridge; two sisters, Consuelo Trevino of Pharr and Nora Allen of California; and 11 grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel. A rosary was recited there at 7 o’clock that evening.
The funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at St. George Catholic Church in George West with Father George Johnson officiating. Interment followed at the George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Carlos Briseno, Danny Briseno, Danny Lee Briseno, Dustin Lee Briseno, Cole Briseno and 1st Lt. Charles Ryan Briseno.
Honorary pallbearers were Carlos Perez, Joe Sumrall, Albert Briseno, Jesse Vasquez, Louis Briseno, Angel Briseno and Robert Arciba, Roel Gutierrez, Cosme Arciba, David Arroya.
