Mr. Tamez was born Aug. 30, 1922, in San Pablo to Pedro Tamez and Sixta De Los Santos and married Dora G. Tamez in San Diego. He had a passion in life for training horses and enjoyed spending his time as a guide hunter, ultimately hunting bobcats and javelinas. Rosendo will be remembered as Live Oak County's oldest cowboy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Dora G. Tamez; and sons, Gabriel Rowland and Abel Tamez.
Survivors include his children, Sylvia Stewart, Rosendo Tamez Jr., Sally T. Hohmann, Eddie Tamez, Angie Longoria, Arturo Longoria, Mary R. Cadena, Frances Berna, and Gene T. Rowland; 22 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home chapel in George West. A rosary will be recited there that evening at 7 o’clock.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, April 23, at 10 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church in George West with Father George Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in St. George Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Tamez, Shawn Tamez, Trey Bernal, Eli Bernal, Eddie Tamez and David Stewart.
