Several members of the Longhorn band program are working hard to keep up their skills and the band’s winning ways this summer by attending summer camps and workshops.

From June 14-19 Katelyn Keach, Allison Bryce, Ella Lowrance and Emily Snider attended the Texas State Band Camp in San Marcos. The students worked hard and enjoyed themselves while developing new skills and refining old ones. Special congratulations to Emily Snider for earning the first chair bass clarinet spot and Katelyn Keach for placing seventh, both in the top band.

Drum majors Luke Sehlke and Lauren Cordani attended the SASI drum major and leadership camp at the same San Marcos location from June 21-24. The duo attended classes dealing with conducting technique, leadership skills and marching. The camp ended with a very impressive demonstration of salutes and conducting skills acquired during the prior four days.

A large group attended the Texas A&M Kingsville band camp from June 21-26. Students involved were Caleb White, Sarah Crawford, Mandy Whitaker, Tyler Kerr, John Driskill, Brittany Root and Ally Guzman. Flag officers Jessica Land and Alyssa Crank also attended. Special recognition goes to Caleb White and Brittany Root for making the top band.

Finally, on July 11 a group departs for the only two week camp in Texas at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas. It has the reputation of being the most fiercely competitive and toughest camp anywhere. Our students who will attend are Lauren Cordani, Samantha Cantu, Kayla Cantu, Zachory McAlister and Mario Rodriguez.

Congratulations and thanks from Dr. Willamson and Mr. Cordani to all these fine young musicians for doing this extra activity to improve themselves and our band program.
