George West Longhorns corral the Natalia Mustangs

Scoring early and often, George West Longhorns overwhelmed the Natalia Mustangs, scoring a 59-27 victory at Longhorn field on Friday night.

The Longhorns tallied 16 points in the first minute and a half of the first quarter with two touchdowns, a two point conversion, and a safety. Colton Tindol taking over at quarterback for the injured Chayson Holt and Lane Wallace was two for three passing for 36 yards and directed the Longhorns to a 43 to 13 halftime lead.

Coach Gary Davenport used every player in the second half allowing starters to rest and substitutes to gain valuable playing experience. Freshmen Seth Pipkin moved up from the junior varsity this week and rushed five times for 92 yards. Shannon Taylor rushed 14 times for 182 yards and three touchdowns. Scott Rosenbaum gained 51 yards on six carries for two touchdowns. Marciano Sanchez gained 39 yards on four carries which resulted in a touchdown and a two-point conversion. He also caught one pass for 36 yards. Cayleb Holt ran for 75 yards on nine carries and had two touchdowns.

Place kicker Dustin White was injured on the PAT attempt after the first touchdown and did not return to action. Joseph Lopez kicked four PATs and senior center Holden Holm had one PAT and a successfully kicked a 21 yard field goal.

The Longhorns offense ended the game with 488 total yards of which 452 yards were gained on the ground.

The Wrecking Crew defense gave up some big plays to the Natalia spread offense passing attack. Yocum, Whitley, Holm, Rannefeld, Shorp, and Rosenbaum had outstanding games defensively.

The Big Blue Wrecking Crew is now five and zero overall and two and zero in district play and travels to Jourdanton next week to face the Indians.
