Melvin Gibbs, age 76, died Monday, Oct. 27 at his residence in Mathis following an extended illness.

He was born to Barney and Maggie (Lewallen) Gibbs on July 5, 1932, in Big Springs, Texas. He married June Savell on July 3, 1951. He was a farmer before his retirement. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed living on the lake.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Terrie (Mark) Runnels of Kingsville and Connie Turner of Mathis; six grandsons, Daniel Turner, Timothy Turner, David Turner, Thomas Turner, Lucas Runnels and Matthew Turner; and one granddaughter, Sarah Odem; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Roberson Funeral Home in George West. The funeral service is scheduled for today. Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ in George West. Burial will follow at the Argenta Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home of George West.
