Freer Buckaroo’s were totally dominated by the Bulldog defense – the ‘Dogs hammered them all night long. The Buckaroos’ got inside the Bulldog 20 yard line only twice during the game and were shut down almost immediately both times. All 22 Bulldogs saw plenty of action. The Bulldogs are now 8-0 for the season and 5-0 in district play.

Garrett Luthringer, senior quarterback for the Bulldogs, led the way scoring three times and even kicked the extra point in the third quarter when 2nd team offense was in the game. Sophomore Ian Smith is now known as the “SmithTrain” after accumulating 3 assists and 14 solo tackles on the defensive side of the ball.

The Bulldogs wasted no time scoring when on the first series the ‘Dogs drove the field on a 33 yard pass completion from Luthringer to Rico Rodriguez and Rodriguez added a big 24 yard run two plays later. Javy Salazar and Ian Smith added yards to the drive as well. Smith scored on a run 6 yards out and Salazar made the PAT as the ‘Dogs went up 7-0 less than 4 minutes into the 1st quarter.

A 23 yard run by Logan Muniz, a 55 yard blast from Javy Salazar put the ‘Dogs on the 1 inch line. Salazar was pulled down from behind by the facemask – the official ruled half the distance to the goal – and half of 2 inches was an inch. Luthringer and Curry fumbled the snap but Luthringer, always fully focused, covered up the ball almost immediately for the score. The PAT was blocked and Three Rivers led 13-0.

Jonathan Luna made a great interception as the second quarter started to put the Bulldogs in control of the ball – again. Muniz had 2 carries this series, including a 28 yarder. Rico Rodriquez found the hole made by the offensive line and used his speed to race 52 yards downfield. Muniz drives to the end zone coming up a yard short and Luthringer takes it in on the next play. The pass for 2 falls incomplete. ‘Dogs lead 19-0.

Free fumbles on their next possession and Jeremy Gomez comes up with the ball for the Bulldogs. A few plays later, Trevor Wells goes in from 13 yards out and Javy Salazar makes the PAT. ‘Dogs lead 26-0.

Freer, frustrated, drew a personal foul penalty during their offensive series that backs then up. A 32 yard punt by Freer still leaves the Bulldogs in excellent field possession. Two plays later and Luthringer connects with Wells. Junior Trevor Wells dives to his right and while airborne catches the pass and lands just inside the sideline. PAT by Salazar puts the Bulldogs up 33-0 as the first half ends.

Freer receives the kick off to begin the second half. An interception by Jeff Whitney ended the drive and gave the ‘Dogs ball possession on their own 48 yard line. A Preston Pennington reception for 21 yards and 2 good runs by Salazar put the Bulldogs four yards out and Luthringer takes it in on the next play. Salazar again makes the PAT as the ‘Dogs go up 40-0.

Again, the defense hammers the Freer offensive line. Forced to punt, Logan Muniz nearly blocks the punt and forces Aker to kick high. The punt goes 8 yards.

John Morgan Ross leads the next offensive charge by keeping the ball and racing 30 yards. Both Whitney and Wells add yards on carries. Wells gets the call and takes the ball in from 8 yards out for the score. Luthringer adds the 1. ‘Dogs lead 47-0.

Again Freer faces the defense led by Seniors Travis Escamilla and Kameron Harless. The punter again faces a Logan Muniz charge and kicks a high punt that results in 13 yards. The Bulldog drive ends after four plays and Freer takes over on their own 30.

Luthringer intercepts a pass but a penalty voids it. A time out and a few plays and Freer decides to go for it on a 4th and 3 – on the Bulldog 19 yard line. The SmithTrain happens. Bulldogs take over on their own 19.

The offense punts for the first time of the evening. The 35 yard punt puts Freer on their own 29. The Buckaroos’ make headway and make a first down. It ends pretty quick after that and on the 4th and 2 on the Freer 48 yard line Freer is stopped again at the line of scrimmage.

John Ross makes a 29 yard run first play from scrimmage. A few carries by Salazar and Whitney place the Bulldogs on the 8. Ross takes the ball in but the kick is rushed and is no good. ‘Dogs win 53-0.
