Junior Fullback Shannon Taylor scored three touchdowns and rushed for 225 yards on 18 carries to lead the George West Longhorns to a 42 - 13 victory over the Cotulla Cowboys in Cotulla.

Back Marciano Sanchez also had a big night scoring twice and rushing for 77 yards on ten carries. Chayson Holt scored the other touchdown on a 36 yard pass reception from Colton Tindol.

For the night, the Big Blue Wrecking Crew Offensive Line opened the way for 353 yards rushing on 41 attempts and Tindol completed three of six passes for 47 yards. Ty Jimmerson moved up from the Junior Varsity to replace the injured Dustin White and was successful on all six point-after- touchdown kicks.

The Defense again played outstanding rush defense but did give up 210 yards passing on ten completions. Clayton Whitley, Seth Pipkin and Tindol each had pass interceptions and Lucas Yokum, Trey Preece, and Gabe Martinez, Thaddeus Pierce each had a quarterback sack. Whitley, Holden Holm, Yokum, Pipkin, Joseph Lopez, Trey Preece, Scott Rosenbaum, Ronnie Paiz, and Robert Kerr led the way in tackles. Albert Gamez returned to action after several weeks off with a shoulder injury.

The scene is set for this week’s much anticipated meeting between the Longhorns and the Three River’s Bulldogs. Both teams go in to the matchup with perfect records and this should be the game of the year for Class 2A in South Texas. The battle will take place Friday night at Longhorn Field.
