Call them “geeks”, call them “nerds”, call them “bandies”, call them what you want, but whatever you call them had better include the word “SUPERIOR”. The Longhorn band received a superior rating at the Regional band competition in Sinton on Saturday. Over 60 supporters, ranging from two years old to over 70 years old, traveled to watch Lauren Cordani and Luke Sehlke lead the band to the next level of competition.

Once again, the students met the challenge presented to them by Doc and Mr. Cordani. The students marched their best show yet and earned the right to advance to Area. Six other bands from this region will advance to Saturday’s Area competition in San Antonio at East Central High School.

Many George West alumni and former band members couldn’t remember the last time that a George West High School band advanced to this level. Most agreed that a band hasn’t advanced since the 70’s. The students have worked hard and endured adversity to reach this point in the season. The band performs Saturday at 2:15. Please come support the band as they march to state!
