Luis Ponce, Sr., 70, passed away in Corpus Christi on Nov. 25, 2009.

Mr. Ponce was born on March 18, 1939 in Three Rivers to Aristeo and Juanita (Pena) Ponce, Sr. He married Genoveva Villanueva on July 3, 1960 in Three Rivers. Luis was a member of St. George Catholic Church in George West and a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd degree Knight. A graduate of South Texas Barber College in San Antonio, he established his barber shop in George West in1960. He had many loyal clients and continued to work in the barber shop until the day he went into Cardiac Arrest. In 2005 he retired from the State of Texas, where he served as State Barber Inspector from 1988-2005.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Felix, Manuel, Guadalupe and Ricardo; and sister, Petra Ponce.

He is survived by wife, Genoveva Ponce; daughter, Christina Ponce; sons, Johnny C. Ponce (Diana) and Luis G. Ponce, Jr. all of George West; brothers, Victor Ponce (Piedad) and Jesus Ponce (Rachel) both of San Antonio and Aristeo Ponce, Jr. (Isabell) of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Mary Chapa of George West; five grandchildren, Anthony Albert Ponce, Tino (Yadira) Kay, Jr., Andrea Renee Alvarez, Frank Aaron Alvarez and Anissa Marie Alvarez; one great grandchild, Jonathon Alex Kay; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is (today) Friday, Nov. 27 from 12-5 p.m., at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West and continued at St. George Catholic Church from 6-9 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

Mass will be held at St. George Catholic Church on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 10 a.m., officiated by Fr. George Johnson. Interment will follow at St. George Catholic Cemetery.
