The George West Storyfest Association once again provided storytellers for the campuses of GWISD. For many years, our students have been fortunate to benefit from this gift from the community. These events are always enjoyable. Professional storytellers visiting our campuses were Tom Taylor, Mark Babino, and De Cee Cornish.

Babino visited the elementary and the junior high. Students laughed at the antics of their guest and participated in several of the stories. When asked about his visit, Babino responded to the school administrator that he had worked with many students as a storyteller. He explained that the junior high age was the most difficult audience and joked that he was concerned when he heard he was assigned to visit that campus. However, Babino responded, “I was more than pleasantly surprised. The students were great…very well behaved.” Babino shared these comments with principal, Heather Lee, as well. Mrs. Lee, beaming with pride, rewarded the students with the right to wear their shirttails out the rest of the afternoon. Lee also expressed thanks to the George West Storyfest Association, “We are very grateful that our students are able to experience this craft. We had a great time this afternoon and appreciate this gift.”
