Esiquiel “Zeke” Mendez, 82, of Three Rivers died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, in Jourdanton.

He was born Aug. 24, 1927, in Campbellton to Jose and Juanita (Acosta) Mendez. He married Lilia “Lillie” Gutierrez on June 26, 1950, in Three Rivers. He served in the U.S. Army, was in the construction trade and was a member of the Catholic church.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Castro of Garland and Belinda Mendez of Three Rivers; two sons, Rocky (Michaela) Mendez of Three Rivers and Bobby Mendez of Houston; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillie Mendez, on July 31, 2009; a brother, Luis Mendez Sr.; and a sister, Lupe Rusling.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Chapel in Three Rivers, with a rosary at 7 o’clock that evening.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Galloway & Sons Chapel, with Father George Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Three Rivers Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bradley Huebotter, Hector Peña, Roque Peña, Rusty Nail, Edward Mendez and Ramon DeLeon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marcos Mendez, Louis Mendez, Henry Estrada and Ruben Peña.
