The George West Longhorns used their best defensive effort of the year to totally dominate the San Diego Vaqueros in route to a 45-14 bi-district victory at Longhorn Field Friday night.

The Wrecking Crew Defense did not allow a Vaquero first down for the first two and a half quarters of the game. By then the Longhorn Offense had put the game completely out of reach for the Vaqueros.

The entire defense consisting of linemen Holden Holm, Joey Leal, Shannon Taylor, Robert Kerr, Travis Walker along with linebackers Lucas Yocum, Clayton Whitley, Scott Rosenbaum, Seth Pipkin and defense backs Joseph Lopez, Colton Tindol, and Zane Schorp frustrated the Vaquero Offense.

Leading tacklers were Lucas Yocum, Holden Holm, Robert Kerr, and Clayton Whitley. Ty Jimmerson had two fourth quarter interceptions to stymie San Diego drives.

Cayleb Holt scored on the opening Longhorn drive of the game on a 43 yard run. Holt scored again a six yard touchdown run. Marciano Sanchez followed with the third George West touchdown and the Longhorns lead 21-0 at the end of the first quarter. Cayleb Holt scored his third touchdown of the game on a one yard run.

Ty Jimmerson closed out the first half scoring with a 32 yard field goal on the last play of the first half. The field goal was set up by a Colton Tindol to Albert Gamez 31 yard pass play and San Diego penalty. Jimmerson was a perfect six for six for points after touchdowns [ PATS] for the game and has made 17 consecutive kicks since moving up from the Junior Varsity squad.

Third quarter touchdowns by Colton Tindol on a 23 yard run and Albert Gamez on a five yard run closed out the Longhorn scoring for the night. The Big Blue Wrecking Crew Offensive Line consisting of Holden Holm, Joey Leal, Trey Preece, Donovan Grimes, Aaron McCabe, Travis Walker, and Cameron Moore opened the way for 408 yards of rushing on 46 attempts for the night.

Individual rushing leaders for the Longhorns were Cayleb Holt with 132 yards and three touchdowns on five carries, Shannon Taylor with 118 yards on 17 carries, Chayson Holt with 63 yards on eight carries, Marciano Sanchez with 30 yards on three carries and one touchdown, Colton Tindol with 12 yards on three carries and one touchdown, Albert Gamez with three carries for 14 yards and one touchdown, Seth Pipkin with two carries for ten yards, Ronnie Paiz with three carries for 12 yards and Robert Kerr with two carries for nine yards.

Coach Davenport allowed his young reserves to gain playoff experience by letting them play part of the third and all of the fourth quarter. The Longhorns continue their playoff drive with a regional game against the Hitchcock Bulldogs this coming Saturday evening at 6 p.m. in El Campo, Texas. The Bulldogs come into the game with a 7 -2 record and were state ranked early in this season. They defeated the Odem Owls 55 to 12 in their Bi-District game. Let’s all make the trip to El Campo and support our Big Blue Wrecking Crew.
