Thomas Lynn “Tommy” Strause Jr. was born on Sept. 27, 1951 in Beeville, Texas. He received the peace of heaven on April 13, 2010 having lived 58 years  in his beloved hometown, George West. He is survived by Glynis Holm Strause, his wife of 31 years, daughter Renee’ Lynn Strause Thomas (Chris) of Holly Springs, his son Seth Rae Strause, his parents Lynn and Dorothy Strause of George West, a sister Lynda Strause Richter of Three Rivers and a brother Jimmy (Kathy) Strause of George West.  He was the most indulgent “Papa T' to two grandsons, Christopher Bryce and Jacob Lynn Thomas.  He is also survived by his in-laws Larry and Shirley Holm of George West, Alandra and Barnard Dodson of Waring, and Sandra and Arthur Edwards of Boerne as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents Daddy Tom and Mama Josie Strause and maternal grandparents Adele "Nanny" and Lewis J "Pierre" Moell and  brother-in-law Pat Richter.  Tommy loved his family, George West, Live Oak County, and the George West Longhorns.He was employed by U. S. Steel as an environmental supervisor during the uranium exploration in Live Oak County. He attended Coastal Bend College and Del Mar College where he graduated with an Associates of Arts degree in culinary arts and restaurant management in 1993.   He was the dietary manager for several long-term care facilities in Alice, Mathis, and Corpus Christi and was the owner of Best Tex Barbecue at Goynes Junction. His greatest talent and joy was cooking and provided many guests excellent catered meals at weddings, hunting lodges, reunions and most often Sunday dinners for the family. For many years, deer season meant two things – naming the deer and cooking at deer camp. Visitations will be at the First Methodist Church in George West on Thursday, April 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, April 16 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church followed by burial at the George West Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Unify to Beautify at the First National Bank of George West, P. O. Box 2230 . George West, Tx. 78022 for the entrance to the George West Cemetery or to the Acorn Scholarship fund for the education of health professionals who reside and will work in Live Oak County at Coastal Bend College Cont.
