The Bulldog season (9-2) ended Friday night in a loss to Industrial during round two of the 2AA division II play-offs. The Cobra’s high powered offense and strong lineman were the foes that tested the defense and won. The Cobras (10-1) rushed for 471 yards in a 36-6 victory at Matador Stadium to earn a spot in next week’s Class 2A Division II regional quarterfinals against Blanco. The only Bulldog score came on a 4-yard pass from Garrett Luthringer to Travis Larson less than a minute into the fourth quarter.

The Cobra offense had fast backs but the offensive line was the best and by far the strongest the Bulldogs had seen all year. The Cobras’ scored first 7 minutes into the first quarter but the PAT was blocked by Preston Pennington. The next score for the Cobras’ came with 4 seconds left in the quarter. The pass attempt for 2 points was broken up by the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs twice got inside the 20 before the half ended but didn’t get the signal on a 4th and 1 for the TD even though it looked like Rico Rodriguez had scored.

The 2nd half began with the Bulldogs defense causing and then recovered a Cobra ball. Penalties and an incomplete pass ended the drive. The next Cobra drive was ended on a pass interception by Rico Rodriguez. The Bulldogs next drive ended on penalty. Industrial scored 17 more points during the half to seal the deal and advance to the next round.

Luthringer finished 10 of 19 for 155 yards and was intercepted three times. He carried the ball five times for 18 yards.

Rico Rodriguez led the Bulldogs with 44 yards on six carries. Logan Muniz had 10 carries for 10 yards and Xavier Salazar 9 yards on four attempts.

There were 12 Seniors who played their last game this night and they will be missed next year. The Seniors are Garrett Luthringer, Logan Muniz, Rico Rodriguez, Jonathan Luna, Wesley Retzloff, Steven Curry, Travis Larson, Preston Pennington, Travis Escamilla, Kameron Harless, John Louis Morin and Xavier Salazar.

Receiving: Salazar 1-8, Trevor Wells 1-26, Muniz 2-43, Wesley Roberts 1-15, Larson 2-14, Rodriguez 1-26, John Ross 1-15, Jonathan Luna 1-8.
