TR 8th grade Bulldogs edge past Jourdanton Indians

The 8th grade boys basketball played their first game of the season at home against Jourdanton this past Thursday and came out on the winning end.

The Bulldogs played good defense to start the game and shut out the Indians in the first quarter to take a 6-0 lead after the first quarter. Jourdanton scored six in the second quarter but the Bulldogs scored 7 points in the second quarter to take a 13-6 lead into halftime.

Jourdanton took control of the third quarter as they outscored the Bulldogs 9 - 5 to narrow the margin to 19-15 going into the final quarter. The Bulldogs pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Indians 11-10 to take a 29-25 victory. Kalli Escamilla led the Bulldogs in scoring with 12 points followed by Chance Saenz with 8 points. Sammie Simmons led the Bulldogs in rebounding with 16 rebounds and also added 4 points.

Charlie Johnston had 4 steals and 6 rebounds. Cory Moya added 4 points and forced 6 turnovers by great defensive play and diving for loose balls.

Cooper Hughes rounded out the scoring with 1 point on a free throw.

The Bulldogs travel to Dilley this Thursday and then come back home on Dec. 18 to play Cotulla before the holiday break.
