The George West Varsity boys defeated the Bloomington Bobcats in an exciting non-district contest on Tuesday by a score of 67-55.

Both teams played well offensively in the first half. The Horns went into the locker room with a 34-32 lead. Donavan Grimes and Shannon Taylor each had six points in the second period to pace the Horns.

In the second the Longhorns played excellent defense. Great defensive efforts were tuned in by Marcu Miller, Kenneth Blevins, Travis Walker, Albert Gamez and Seth Pipkin. Leading the way in the second half offensively were Colton Tindol with 10 points and Donavan Grimes with nine points. The final score was 67-55. Game stats: Grimes 15, Tindol 14, Taylor 11, Miller 10, Walker 7, Gamez 8, and Blevins 4. With the win the Longhorn’s improved to 1-4 on the season.

The GW Varsity boys traveled to the McMullen Tournament this weekend and lost to Medina 72-64. Medina jumped out to a huge first half lead of 36-18.

In the second half the Longhorns came back and cut the lead to 47-41 going into the fourth quarter. Colton Tindol had 13 third quarter points for the Longhorns.

In the fourth quarter the Longhorns got to within three points for the Longhorns. In the fourth quarter the Longhorns got to within three points of Medina 58-55. But that was as close as they would get. The final score was 72-64. It was a great match and the kids really played hard. Scoring totals for the Longhorns: Tindol 26, Walker 12, Taylor and Miller with eight each, Moore six, Gamez and Blevins with two each.

The next game for the Horns will be Tuesday, Dec. 16 at home at 6:30 p.m. against Refugio.
