Eighth-grade boys take on Cotulla

The Three Rivers eighth-grade boys basketball squad played Cotulla last week and came up short 25 - 22.

The Bulldogs took a 6 - 4 lead after the first quarter, but the Cowboys came back in the second quarter to take a 14-8 halftime lead. In the third quarter, Chance Saenz carried the Bulldogs and scored all six points in the quarter and had three steals.

The Bulldogs outscored Cotulla 8 - 4 in the 4th quarter but the Bulldogs came up short in the end. Saenz led the Bulldogs in scoring with 13 followed by Sammie Simmons who had five points. Cory Moya and Kalli Escamilla rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs with two points apiece.

Simmons led Three Rivers in rebounds with 12. Escamilla had four rebounds and Charlie Johnston had three rebounds and a steal. Moya and Josh Cooper had two steals apiece. The Bulldogs shot two of four from the free throw line. The Bulldogs next district opponent will be Freer after the holiday break.
