Robert “Butch” Herschap passed away Sunday, August 8, 2010. He was born to Sam Milton and Thelma Katarina Kirchoff Herschap on May 16, 1943, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was a graduate of Orange Grove High School and served in the U.S. Army. In 1972, he received an honorable discharge. He married Jeanine Brugger Cantwell on July 22, 1995, in Beeville, Texas. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Orange Grove Volunteer Fire Department. Robert was co-owner of S.M. Herschap Corp. in Orange Grove, Texas and Acme LP Gas in George West, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Thelma Herschap; first wife, Joyce Freiley; brother, Sammie Herschap; and sister, Yvonne Doubrava; and baby, Allen Wayne.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanine Herschap of Beeville, Texas; daughter, Shanna Williams and husband Daniel of Orange Grove, Texas; grandson, John Joseph Williams, II of Orange Grove, Texas; step-children, Connie Sherwood and husband James of Boerne, Texas, Robert Cantwell, IV and wife Connie of New Braunfels, Texas, and Will Cantwell; step-grandchildren, Samantha Sherwood, Robert Sherwood, Jack Cantwell, and Kendall and Nathan Carpenter.
Visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, August 9, 2010, with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Chapel. Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Patrick Donohoe officiating. Interment followed at Sons of Hermann Cemetery in Orange Grove, Texas.
Pallbearers were Patrick Afflerbach, John Bond, Seale Brand, James Brooke, Allen DeReese, John Hellums, David Hutchens, and Gay Klatt.
