Refugio Police Chief Andy Lopez Jr. issued the following community service message:

“In the chaos of daily activities, we may be focused on personal matters and forget about our surroundings.

The Refugio Police Department reminds everyone that the Refugio High School and Refugio Elementary School are designated as “school zone, hands free” areas.

The designated areas are on West Vance, North Alamo, Swift and Crockett streets. These designated areas require motorists to drive within the posted speed limit, 20 mph, and the use of cellular phones is prohibited.

Safety for our children is of the utmost concern; therefore, motorists should be vigilant when traveling through these areas. Your cooperation is appreciated.”
