The Refugio Police Department wants the public to be safe internet users.

An Email scam is circulating that looks as if the FBI is promising a money pay out after you send a payment.

Keep several points in mind to make you a safe Internet user. Be cautious of unsolicited offers. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Make sure a web site is secure and reputable before providing your credit card number online. One way to do this is to log on to the official web site, instead of linking to it from an unsolicited Email.

You should also monitor your monthly credit card statements for any fraudulent activity and review your credit report at least once a year.

The Refugio Police Department suggests that with awareness and research, you can avoid becoming an internet crime victim.

If you have any questions, please contact the Refugio Police Department at 361 526-4533.
