Storyteller Tom McDermott treated sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students at Refugio ISD to an array of embellished stories during a program on Feb. 16 at the elementary school library.

McDermott also presented a writing workshop for fourth and seventh graders. Students created their own stories, with the storyteller teaching them writing skills to make the story more interesting.

McDermott, a first generation Irish-American storyteller, is an author, musician, comedian, percussionist and speaker.

The performer used instruments including a guitar, ukulele, hurdy-gurdy and drums to enhance his stories.
