Anyone driving down Highway 181 near Kenedy Saturday afternoon undoubtedly saw an all-day training exercise involving the Karnes City, Kenedy, Falls City, Runge and Pawnee Volunteer Fire Departments. The groups switched off between extrication work behind Jerry B’s and training with home invasion at a house owned by Mike Burris. Around 4:30 p.m., the group lit the house on fire one final time and got a few more minutes of training in before watching it burn to the ground. Burris donated this house to the fire departments. Old 181 Wrecker, Old 181 Tire Shop and Recycling, and Alan Brown with Jerry B’s donated the cars for extrication training. Also donating to the event were John Deere, who donated a Gator to drive from location to location, and Ryan Services which donated the port-o-potties. Ramon Morin cooked lunch for the groups. “Everyone involved was very pleased with the level of training,” KCVFD Fire Chief Charlie Malik said.
